Campaign Arc & Threads

GM Reference · Chapter 09
Everything on this page is spoilers

What the season is actually building toward, split explicitly into decided threads and genuinely open ones, so nothing here gets mistaken for more settled than it is.

Thread: Marcus's Fate

Three branches, not three simultaneous truths - pick one for your table, or reveal ambiguously early and let it stay genuinely unresolved for a while.

Thread: The Incident, Still Loose

Deliberately open, consistent with chapter 01's framing - no fixed agenda, revels in chaos, wearing some new host somewhere. Where it is and what it's doing next is GM's call in the moment, not decided here. If branch B above is chosen, this thread and Marcus's thread merge into one.

Thread: The Foundation Closes In

The season's escalation shape: Case Officer Broussard's investigation (paperwork, quiet questions, no direct contact) as the early pressure, Special Agent Chastain's personal involvement as the mid-season turn - she starts as an observer, then a conversation, then eventually a confrontation - building toward a real Foundation response once the party's visibility crosses some threshold. No fixed session count; GM's call based on how the table's actually playing it.

Thread: Gulf Coast Division & Site-42

The burned incident log from Case File LA-1147 left two lines deliberately unreadable: a "Gulf Coast breach" and Site-42 reporting activity that's "roughly tripled." Both stay genuinely unresolved here - a deliberate unpaid-off hook for later, not a mystery with a secret answer already decided. Build the payoff whenever the season actually needs one.

Decided vs. Genuinely Open

Using This at the Table

This chapter is a shape, not a script. Pull individual threads forward or let them sit based on what the table's actually engaging with.
